The Mini Arts Grant

We were grateful to be awarded The Mini Arts Grant by Creative Bay of Plenty and TECT to run The Play Exploratorium at Matter Gallery. This workshop was developed to encourage participants to develop an understanding of material properties and explore a wide range of materials. Held in the gallery itself, this workshop was led by experienced artist-tutor Shona MacKenzie with artist Kim Fifield.

Creative Communities Scheme

We are grateful to Creative New Zealand and the Tauranga City Council for awarding us funding for a project in October 2025.

Matter’s inaugural residency in spring 2025 gives a selected artist the opportunity to use our gallery space to create work for exhibition which focuses on response/ collaboration with nature within Tauranga Moana’s biosphere. The artist should embrace Matters' eco-philosophical ethos for the subsequent ECOSOPHY exhibition, with sustainable artmaking practices, incorporating natural or bio-materials.
